2.3. Lymphatic malformations

Lymphatic malformations are dilated or cystic lymphatic vessels. In some forms lymphatic vessels have small cysts (microcystic lymphatic malformation) and in other forms cysts are bigger (macrocystic lymphatic malformation). In most cases, lymphatic malformations are located or limited to one region of the body, but there are more generalised forms (generalised lymphatic malformation) and they can even end up affecting the bone (Gorham’s Disease). In Gorham’s Disease, lymphatic vessels penetrate the bone destroying it. This is very debilitating and may cause secondary fractures.
