2.3. Thoracic X-ray

It is an imaging test that looks at the chest, lungs, heart and great arteries, ribs, sternum and diaphragm.

It is used to evaluate all these structures. In this case, we are particularly interested in the lungs and any alterations that may be observed in them.

To perform the examination, the child must stand in front of the diagnostic radiology equipment. Before taking the X-ray, a deep breath should be taken and, while holding it, the X-ray is taken. Different projections can be taken: posteroanterior, lateral...

Given that it emits a small amount of radiation, it is only carried out if it is necessary for the diagnosis and monitoring of the child. On many occasions, moreover, it will not be sufficient to identify the disease and other tests will have to be carried out to continue with the diagnostic process.
