9. Anemia
Anemia is usual in people with severe types of EB. It is due to the presence of bloody blisters leading to a chronic loss of blood, an iron deficit due to the nutritional difficulties and nutrients absorption, and to a persistent inflammatory state due to the cutaneal infections impeding the formations of red blood cells. Anemia is manifested as chronic tiredness, intolerance to exertion, hair loss, skin and mucous paleness, cold sensation and depression. It usually requires of the administering of oral iron supplements and, when not enough, intravenous iron or blood transfusions in the more severe cases.
