Juvenile dermatomyositis

7. Tacrolimus

It is a particularly useful immunosuppressive agent for the treatment of skin lesions in JDM that can be used alone or in combination with other immunosuppressants.

Its use, like that of mycophenolate, is relegated to disease resistant to initial treatment (corticosteroids, MTX and/or gamma globulins).

Although there are no studies in JDM that recommend a drug dose to achieve a specific blood level, plasma levels of 5 ng/ml are recommended.

Side effects are similar to those of cyclosporine and monitoring recommendations are similar to those described for MTX.
