4. Hydroxychloroquine
Although the benefits of its use are not as clear as in systemic lupus erythematosus, it is often used from the onset of the disease, accompanying MTX and corticosteroids, with the aim of controlling the predominantly cutaneous disease and reducing the risk of relapses.
The recommended dose is 5-6 mg/kg orally as a single daily dose, with a maximum dose of 400 mg per day.
Given the potential risk of retinal toxicity, although very rare, it is recommended that an ophthalmological examination be performed at baseline and annually thereafter, with assessment of visual acuity and colour test.
