Modification of the environment

The most important source of UV light is the sun. Patients should avoid sun exposure and being out during daylight, limiting their outside activities to the early morning or late evening, when the sun is below the horizon. Radiation from UV light should be blocked through windows too (home, cars, etc.) with UV protection screens.

Inner artificial lights such as fluorescents, halogens or mercury lamps irradiate UV light. Covering them or substituting them for incandescent lights or LEDs diminish significantly UV exposure in the inside of the houses.

As patients with XP should avoid daylight sun exposure, protecting the vehicles and asking for enabling of parking permission near to home or the school should help to make shorter walks in the street. During the scholar period, windows from the class should be protected with sunscreens.
