Oncology

Introduction

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) is a rare condition that affects the skin. Its main characteristics are photosensitivity, pigmentary changes, and others. Different genes can be mutated giving place to different types of XP and different symptoms. These genes are involved in the DNA repair pathways making difficult for the cells in the dermis (the outer layer of the skin) to edit and correct mutations induced by UV exposure.
