Clinical characteristics of retinal dystrophies

The clinical manifestations of hereditary retinal dystrophies are characterized by presenting loss of visual acuity, mostly progressive in nature, with an early onset of symptoms. Other symptoms may vary depending on the type of disease and the age of presentation, such as: photophobia (sensitivity to light), nystagmus (rapid and involuntary eye movements), nyctalopia (difficulty seeing at night) or dyschromatopsia (difficulty distinguishing colours).
