Optical aids and functionality

From certain ages, visual functions are developed and consolidated. In these cases, in the face of pathologies that reduce visual acuity or the visual field, rehabilitation programs are required to train the visual remainder. The objective is to provide the person with low vision with the necessary optical and non-optical instruments to help them carry out daily actions.

They are technical aids, devices or instruments that help improve the visual performance of people with low vision.

In general, optical aids offer many advantages to the user: they increase motivation, by making it possible to work with the same materials as others, the person is given greater independence in all aspects related to daily life (from shaving to reading the newspaper), they can be used with all kinds of characters or typographies, thus avoiding having to make photocopies, and being suitable for all kinds of material. Some drawbacks are that the visual field is reduced, light dims and it requires training.
