Epidermolysis bullosa

1.4. Live quality implications
Itching is frequently associated with a great burden on the quality of life of EB patients and their families. The greatest impact is reflected in terms of mental health (depression, anxiety, isolation), physical health (lack of rest, since itching is more frequent at bedtime, especially in children because they are not distracted) and social performance (it has a great economic burden due to the use of resources necessary for its management). In some studies related to other pruritic skin diseases, the appearance of suicidal ideas in the context of depression have also been described.
Itching should be considered as part of the pain spectrum, since all the consequences of itching (including discomfort, insomnia and depression) increase the sensation of pain, as well as lower the pain threshold.
