5. Diagnosis in JDM

The diagnosis of any chronic disease in a child is a challenge for the family, especially in the case of rare diseases. It is almost always an unexpected situation, full of doubts and uncertainty due to the lack of knowledge about the pathology and the consequences it may have in the short or long term.

It involves a change in some routines and the appearance of new ones such as going to a doctor's office periodically and/or taking a treatment continuously for more or less prolonged periods of time.

JDM is a disease for which there are nowadays several therapeutic possibilities to achieve remission in a high percentage of patients. There are experienced pediatric rheumatology units that will be in charge of carrying out the necessary studies for diagnosis, selecting the most appropriate treatment in each case and accompanying the child and family throughout the process.

The main objective is to ensure that children can lead a normal life, without the diagnosis of the disease becoming a hindrance to their social relationships, learning or personal development.
