4. Ophthalmological manifestations

Ocular involvement in juvenile dermatomyositis may be related to the disease itself (ocular inflammation) and/or to the treatments administered.

Chronic treatment with corticosteroids and hydroxychloroquine requires periodic ophthalmological examinations to rule out drug-related toxicity (cataracts, ocular hypertension, retinal toxicity).
